The story goes that J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were looking around them at the literature landscape of their day and noticed that nobody was writing the kind of quality fiction that they wanted to read, so they took it upon themselves to write the good stuff themselves.
I suspect they had no idea how radical their simple idea would turn out to be, nor how successful their stories would become.
Beginnings are like that.
It's our turn now.
Dragons, Knights, and Angels magazine, The Magazine of Christian Fantasy and Science Fiction, (aka DKA), is pleased to announce that, effective immediately, we are doubling pay-out rates for both fiction and poetry sales.
Thanks to the tireless efforts by Editor-in-Chief Bill Snodgrass, the DKA editorial staff, and Double-Edged Publishing, Inc., strong early 2006 donations have made it possible to increase our payment rates to $10 for fiction and $5 for poems.
We believe that increasing the payment rates for authors while keeping the e-zine free for readers will help us field better fiction, stronger stories, deeper poetry, more challenging works all-around.
But 2006 is young and we're just getting started.
We believe that God is raising up a remnant of creative fiction authors who believe in writing top-notch works that entertain, uplight, and enlighten, and we have already seen great things at DKA and at sister-site The Sword Review. If you have strong stories with a moral core, now is the time to get your submissions in for consideration!
In addition, plans are in the works for a Double-Edged Publishing "Best of 2005" anthology. This publication will be an actual printed book and will include the Editors Choice for the best poems and fiction from The Sword Review and Dragons, Knights, & Angels from 2005.
You can expect that 2006's anthology will be even more exciting, and now is the time to get your foot in the door to be eligible for that volume!
2006 looks to be an exciting year for DKA and The Sword Review. Bill Snodgrass has published a piece at The Sword Review that looks at some of the things "In Store for 2006", so be sure to head over there and take a look at some of the things that we know about that are in the works. Also, please hold us up in prayer as we remain open for the things that we don't yet know about!
If you'd like to see more and better mind-blowing fiction with a moral core and would like to support this bold new initiative, please visit this link about how to help to raise funding to continue to lead the way with clever, creative works that entertain, uplift, and enlighten. _________________ Johne (Phy) Cook | co-conspirator / Overlord, Ray Gun Revival | phywriter.com | The Sword Review | |
