Currently: Writing rewriting yet again, my tribal novel... ]Well, I thought this would be a good place to post this. I've been away on a lovely surprise holiday to the South of France. I'd been to France before, but never been as far as the Midi-Pyrenees, which is where we spent lovely long days in the sun, and visited interesting ruins and restored castles with intriguing histories. I took notes on paper as well as mental notes to remind myself of these interesting visits.
Aside from the castles, we also took a day out to visit beautiful Montpellier Le Vieux with its awesome rock formations. Clambering over rocks and vegetation, it was worth hearing my little boy exclaiming over the beauty of the surroundings.
After a long climb, we reached one of the highest viewpoints where we found ourselves facing a breathtaking vista. In between gasping for breath, my son said, "Wat een uitzicht", which means, "what a view". It's the dutch expression for admiration.
Later that afternoon, we stopped to capture the color of the sunset. "Avondrood", evening red, they call it. A wonderfully poetic word that captures the essence of the sunset.
Our days seemed to unfold in a manifestation of color, and we moved from wonder to wonder. That night, we saw the stars coming out one by one. Away from the noise of the city, surrounded by total darkness, we could clearly see the constellations unfolding and the belt of the milky way stretched from end to end, as far as the eye could see.
One advantage of taking this holiday was the long drive from the Netherlands to the South of France. While the highway unfolded before us, I found time to reflect on my novel and to rewrite some things in my mind.
I didn't get to write many words on this holiday, but it's all for the good, I think. I'm now off to write some more. If you'd like to see some photos of our holiday, feel free to check out my main blog.
